Rachel looked around at Aura Town, noting that it was much different from her hometown, Lavaridge. For one, there wasn't a HUGE volcano or a Fire-Type gym leader. But, that story for another day. Sapphire trotted along beside her, and Sludge was resting in his Pokeball. They hadn't been any stores except the Pokemart, and that was for neccesities.
Rachel sized up some of the trainers, most of them looking to be more like rookies than anything. It would be nice to have a little practice battle with one. Maybe someone would just approach her and ask to battle her strong, yet beautiful, Vulpix.

After finally arriving in Aura Town, Deanna rushed towards the Pokémart. However, upon turning down a street corner, she ran straight into another trainer. "Goodness!" She fell backwards, landing with a hard thud. After shaking it off, she forced herself back to her feet. "Oh, my! I'm terribly sorry about that! I didn't mean to... I should really slow down in town." After another few moments of mumbling she gasped and looked down at Rachel. "Are you alright?"

Rachel picked herself up, brushed off her clothes, and said, "Don't worry about it. I'm fine." After a moment, she asked, "Hey, are you a trainer heading toward Astra City for the contest?" She wasn't sure if a travel buddy would be a good idea, but it'd be less lonely. After all, it's kind of hard to unerstand even your own Pokemon.

"Nah. Sorry..." She shrugged. "To tell you the truth, I just patrol around here. I came from the Route up ahead. I challenge other trainers to help them advance. Level their Pokémon, you know?" With a small amount of thought, she came to a great conclusion. "Would you care to have a battle? You can choose the rules yourself, if you'd like." She smiled, awaiting an answer.

"That'd be great. But I don't really like choosing the rules. It makes me think I'm going to be unprepared when I get to a contest or gym battle, which ever I choose. To tell you the truth, I haven't decided yet. But, yeah, a battle would be great practice for Sapphire and me." Sapphire yipped excitedly, glad to be back in the battle. She leapt up a little, showing Rachel that she was ready for anything!

"Alright, then." She smiled, stepping backwards. "The rules will be simple--- a one-on-one battle, no substitutes, first to KO the opponent wins. Are those okay?" She pulled out a Pokéball, excited for the impending battle. "Best of luck, then." She chuckled. "Oh, and since I made the rules, you choose your first Pokémon."

Rachel nodded and also took a step back. "Fair rules." Looking at Sapphire, she said, "Do you wanna take this one?" "Vul!" cried the Vulpix, eager to battle again. "Okay, then, I'll use my Vulpix, Sapphire." She grinned and said, "I believe it is your turn to choose your Pokemon." Sapphire leapt forward, facing her opponent's trainer with blazing eyes.

With anod, Deanna pulled out a Pokéball. "Alright, then! Go, Staravia!" In a bright burst of scarlet light, the black and white bird Pokémon appeared before them. "Best of luck to the both of you... you'll need it." She laughed mockingly.

"You too." Rachel narrowed her eyes and said, "Allow me to take the first move. Sapphire, used Ember!" And so, their battle officially began.
(Oh, so museless.)

"Quickly, Star! Use Gust to get rid of the fire!" In an instant, sand and wind extinguished the fierce flames, ths clearing the battle field for another attack. "Now, use Peck!" The bird-type swooped down towards the Fire-type and began to stab mercilessly at it with its sharp beak.

"Sapphire! Dodge it and use Growl and follow up with Ember!" Rachel watched her Vulpix rush into the battle after the close miss with the Peck. "Vul!" she growled, and then released another round of flaimg embers toward the Flying-Type Pokemon that she was battling. "Keep it up!" Rachel called.

Because of the sheer swiftness of the fire attack, Staravia was unable to dodge the Ember. However, it managed to get in another attack at Deanna's command. "Use Peck again!" The Flying-type swooped down, aiming strait at the opponent.

"Pix!" Sapphire called angrily as the stinging Peck attack fell upon her. When the Staravia had moved away, the Vulpix shook her fur, refreshing herself. Rachel said, "Okay, Sapphire, use a long range Ember, then move in and use Quick Attack! And be sure to jump!" Sapphire nodded and blasted a fiery Ember attack before speeding toward Staravia and launching herself toward it.

The long range Ember was quite difficult to dodge--- the continuous bombardment resulted in a fair burn on the bird's breastbone. However, it continued battling, easily dodging the Qucik Attack. "Now, Pidgeotto, use another Gust to whip up sand! When Vulpix cannot see you, dive in with an Aerial Ace!" Without any gestures or acknowledgement, the bird beat its wings with vulgar and kicked up a tremendous dust storm.

Sapphire coughed as the sand flew through the air, surrounding her and making it hard to see. She did not know that Staravia was going to attack, so she was quite helpless in the dust storm.
Rachel saw some people gathering around and knew it was time to step it up a notch. Seeing what was happening, Rachel called to her Vulpix. "Use Ember all around you, and keep moving!" Sapphire barked from the sand and began using a continuous Ember attack. The sand began to glow red, making it seem as if a giant Pokeball was sucking up the sand. As she did, she started to back out of the sand, trying to escape the terrible trap.

Several of the fireballs hit Staravia, but the bird continued soaring high. "Hurry and use a Twister!" Immediately the Pokémon began to spin in a ferocious circle just a few feet about Sapphire. Just a few moments later, a massive amount of sand was hurled into the air and twirled in ring, forming a miniature tornado in the large area. "Great!" Deanna called to her Flying-type. "Just keep it up a bit longer.

( Of course not! Thanks! ^^ )
Sapphire yipped madly as the Twister formed. "Don't worry! Just use Growl! That's about all you can do for now." Rachel knew that the high winds would extinguish any Fire-Type moves, so Growl would have to do for now. That would bring down the Staravia's attack, at least.
Sapphire leapt up and growled as viciously as possibly, and decided to throw in a move of her own. Speeding toward the bird, she leapt into the air and used a Quick Attack. She threw her whole weight into the single attack, trying to make it as damaging as possible for her size.

Although Quick Attack was a very powerful direct hit, Staravia continued fighting with an unquestionably strong Aerial Ace. Deanna, who hadn't commanded the flying-type, anxiously awaited the outcome of the rage-driven attack. "Staravia--- this kind of behavior can cost us the entire match, if you keep it up! You'd best listen to me carefully from here on out..." She added angrily.

Rachel listened as Deanna gave her Staravia a scolding for attacking without permission. Rachel shook her head sadly; Deanna needed to trust her Pokemon a little more. Turning back to her own Pokemon, Rachel called, "Okay, Sapphire, get ready! Wait right where you're at! When Staravia comes close enough, use Ember! Then use another Growl."
Sapphire barked and stood like a statue, only her eyes followed Staravia's movement. As soon as it came as close as Sapphire thought it would, she released a fiery Ember bombardment on the Flying-Type. When she felt she was done, she used a Growl attack once more.
