Though he had gone to a professor's lab before to get his first pokemon, Shou still found himself a bit nervous. Odd yes, but to be expected. After all, he was starting a new adventure, and going on an incredible journey. No tonly that, but he wanted to do his brother and sister proud. Though both of themm seemed to be going down the route of coordinators, he stillw anted to be a rolemodel for them. After all, he was there older brother, and he felt that it was his job to present his younger siblings an ideal.
Sure, he wasn't the greatest hero or inspiration, but he still hoped he was at least a bit worth while.
With this in mind, Shou took a deep breath, calming himself to his normal standard, before knocking on the door and waiting for a reply.
He didn't know what to expect, and yet had foud his calm mind and was ready for whatever came next.

Upon hearing someone at the door, Professor Pine, eager to meet new trainersand help them along on their journey, leapt up from his swivel chair and walked swiftly towards the knocking. "Just a moment." He called from the distance of about fifteen feet. Without any hesitation or concern, he pulled the heavy, oak door open and gazed down at the boy. "Ah, please do come in." He notioned for the boy to do as he had requested of him and then gently shut the monolithic object that was the door. "You must be here for your first Pokémon, no doubt. Do you've any ideas of which you will choose?"

Seeing the Proffesor close the door, which must looked like it must have weighed twice as much as any Wailord, Shou whistled in appreciation. 'If he can do that, I'm not sure I want to know how long he has been having to close and open it.' Shou thought to himself.
After a moment of silence, mostly to make sure that he had all his thoughts in order and that said thoughts would come out right, Shou spoke cooly, showing he had gotten over his inital nervousness.
"Well, if it weren't impossible, I'd say a dragon type." Shou laughed at this, knowing the idea was rather insane, but, he could always dream. "Still, since I'm fairly certain that I'd be very lucky to see one, much less get the chance to catch one, I think trying my hand at a physic pokemon would be interesting. I don't particularly like Abra though, just too yellow." Shou smiled again showing that he was indeed a friendly person when he wanted. "But, if that isn't possible either, a bird pokemon would be an interesting starter to train."

"My, my." The Professor chuckled. "You've quite a variety for me to expand on, don't you?" With a smile still full on his face, he took a very deep breath. "Even though I admire your bravery in coming flat out by requesting a Dragon-type, I must sadly say it is quite impossible for me to give you one. You see, a couple of months ago, another trainer took the last of the Dragons--- a Bagon."
Upon remembering the two other listed types, the Professor perked up. "And yes, we do have a few Psychic and Flying-types available." He stroked his chin for a moment, staring off into what seemed to be nothingness. "Let me see, here." He continued wondering in thought, until he finally came to a conclusion. "We've Abra, which you don't particularily care for, Slowpoke, Smoochum, and Chingling. And birds? Well, we've Pidgey, Hoothoot, Murkrow and Swablu." Without warning, as though something had struck him square in the face, he blurted out abruptly, "Swablu! It evolves into Altaria! You know, a Dragon-type?"

Shou smiled slightly, amused by Proffessor Pine's half sort of rant. 'At the very least I'm not going to have a shortage of pokemon to pick from.' he thought, a larger smile coming to his face.
Half listening to the professor, taking note when he mentioned Swablu, Shou mentally frowned. 'So he did have dragon types, sad that someone got the last of them.' was his last thought as the proffesor finished his list of pokemon for him to pick.
"Well, Swablu sounds swell." Shou said in all seriousness, though a humorous smirk was tugging at his lips. "I may not be able to start with a dragon type, but I never trained a Swablu, and the fact they go through such a evolution is pretty amazing. Sort of like Feebas and how they evolve into Milotic."
Yes, Shou had knowledge of pokemon and their many varieties, but he well knew he had a lot to learn. "So, I guess I'm trying to say that Swablu would be a perfect fit."

Shou smiled slightly as he took Swablu and perched her on his shoulder for now. "Thanks." he told to the professor before starting to leave, pokeball from the starter pack coming to his hand. "And I hope we can talk again when I catch more pokemon, who knows, maybe I'll even raise a team of dragons."
Shou smiled at this, joyful for this moment, but not anxious, just happy. "All right Cotton." he said, having picked out a name for the pokemon already. "You go in your pokeball for now, but soon I'll find somewhere we can train."
"Wablu." the pokemon said in reply before being called back in the ball as Shou waved a last goodbye.
