The gentle thud of boots and the flurry of cards from one hand to the other broke the steady silence as the fluttering of a coat joined in. Blue eyes were half closed as Jackie stared into space, thinking while subconsciously shuffling a pack of playing cards in his hand. It was an odd lil' trick he had gained while living in Mauville City, one which had now turned into a slight habit of his. He was thinking back to when he first left his home and the only family he had left, his father and his father's psychic pokemon. Oh, and his mother's pokemon. Everyone looked so sad to see him leave, especially his father. After his mother died, his father had become rather protective of his son but knew he couldn't hold onto Jackie forever. 'At least he still has his pokemon, so he's not alone. And of course, I'll call everytime I reach a pokemon center.' Jackie thought to himself, reassuring himself that his father would be alright without him. A jingle caught his attention, bringing him back to reality just in time to catch himself before he crashed into the door of the laboratory. "Whoa...that was close." Jackie mumbled as he blinked at the door. Pocketing his pack of cards, guessing the jingle had come from his necklace which had the Mossdeep gym badge as a pendent. It had been his mother's and wore it in memory of his mother and his hometown of Mossdeep City. With a deep breath, he knocked on the door before him and patiently waited a stern, serious look. Although, knowing Jackie it wouldn't last long.

An older man in a white coat opened the door, one eyebrow raised as he looked critically at the newcomer and then opened the door. "Here for your starting Pokemon are you?" He asked, stepping out of the doorway and back into the lab, moving behind his now clean desk and looking for the keys to the backroom.

Jackie walked in and scanned the room, raising a curious eyebrow before quickly levelling it. He looked to the Professor, knowing he looked rather old to be getting a starter pokemon but he didn't want to leave his father alone until he was sure he'd be fine on his own. "Yes, I am, Sir. And I know I look a little old to be getting a starter pokemon but personal complications prevented me from starting at a younger age." Jackie answered, keeping his face as straight as possible even though he desperately wanted to smirk right now.

"We've had a few about your age come in. It's no biggie. Never to old...well, maybe when you get around my age you would be." Professor Pine shrugged and found the keys in the top drawer. He had put a large keychain of a Snorlax on the keyring in hopes of making the keys easier to find. It didn't, it just made him look rediculous, a top professor with a cute colorful toy on his keys. He glowered and left it on, figuring he'd only look more rediculous if he started struggling to take the stupid thing off. Trying to stand straight and dignified he looked back at Jackie. "Do you have any particular Pokemon in mind?"

Jackie couldn't help but smile at the keychain, it was cute even though Snorlax wasn't really one of his favorite pokemon. While the Professor glowered at the keychain, Jackie turned his face straight again with difficulty. But he let his smile slip back when he asked for what he had in mind for a pokemon. "Well, I take an interest in psychic-type pokemon." Jackie answered. 'Interested' was an understatement. Jackie absolutely loved psychic-type pokemon. Though, if the Professor didn't have any psychic-types he'd be happy to have one of his second favorite type, Ghost. His mother had Ghost-type pokemon, which now belonged to his father after the incident. Blinking a bit, Jackie pushed his thoughts away so they didn't get the chance to distract him.

"Psychic, we've got plenty of. Any particular...species?" The Professor tried to stuff the keys in his pocket and out of sight nonchalantly but the large Pokemon keychain refused to go in easily. Clearing his throat he clasped his hands behind his back. "Any specific Pokemon in mind?"

Jackie couldn't hold it any longer. His expression broke out into a smirk as his eyes glinted, fantastic! Getting a psychic-type pokemon for a starter would become his first step in becoming a Master of Psychic-types. With all the seriousness gone from his expression, his position relaxed to a more pleasent pose. Mentioning psychic pokemon to him always made him lose his concentration and ruin his stern, serious air. "Do you have any Ralts, especially a male. Gallade has always taken my fancy." Jackie replied, looking almost like a little kid waiting anxiously for his birthday presents.

"Haha! Well what do you know, we gave our female Ralts out earlier and all we have is the male left. You're in luck!" Pine laughed, heading to the back room, unlocking the door and coming out with a Pokeball which he threw in the air. Ralts came out and 'looked' up at Jackie curiously. -----Congratulations, Jackie has obtained a Ralts!----- Name: ? ? ? Gender: Male Species: Ralts Level: 8 Attacks: -Growl -Confusion -----Congratulations, Jackie has obtained a Starter Pack!----- 5000 ND 1 Pokéball 1 Potion 3 Berries

"So what're gonna name it son?" Pine asked, sitting behind his desk and pulling out a pen and piece of note paper, ready to write the name down.

Jackie grinned, was it his lucky day or what? He thought back to his first memory of seeing a psychic pokemon under the command of his father. He had felt so giddy he had jumped up and bear-hugged the poor Espeon. Upon seeing the Ralts, his grin grew wider and he crouched down to his level. "Hey there, I'm Jackie and I'll be your trainer from now on. I think Gallieno suits you for a name." Jackie said softly, smiling gently. Gallieno had been the name of the boat his mother had been on when it was attacked, sinking along with his mother. The memory of the incident still hurt, as the attackers were never found and so never get what they deserved... Justice.

"Very good name, now get out of her." The professor cracked a smile. "Go start your journey, you're late." He winked and went back to his work.
Ooc:; Go ahead to the forum called Aura Town *pokes the forum under Professor Pine's*. You'll have to travel a bit before you actually reach Aura town though. Make your own thread. =3 And good luck!
